Some Walls are Good!

Facebook posts are always a wonderful medium when it comes to expressing topical issues - be it movies, sports, songs, politics, personal life, professional life etc. - through direct, indirect or humorous route of mental articulation into an assertive voice that is made public and disseminated into the FB universe. From my stance, the posts really opens up your perspectives and different possibilities when we read other person's status on any issue when we meditate on it for a while and conclude whether theirs' is indeed right or our opinion is not wrong so that a person can be truly in touch with the reality instead of rigidly holding on to our own view that it is only right and another individual's wrong without hearing them out.

Being a member in FB for a very long time, whenever there was/is an window of opportunity, I used to jump and swim into the deep ocean of Facebook to verbalize my thinking process on the matters at hand. Sometimes, a trip down the memory lane is so nostalgic and fun that you would wonder whether it is written by you even when you know it is.

The following would be one such compilation of some posts on my wall since 2009:

1. All of a sudden, the art of asking "Why ?" has rapidly diminished and vanished into thin air. WHY ?

2. The Best Love Story to be evaaaaa unfolded in history is not Romeo and Juliet's story but that exists between our very own grand dad and grand mom !!

3. Always getting confused y it is called a 'Flat' and we are living in a vertically upward structure !!

4. The distance between the heart and the mind may be very less but the impact of the decisions taken by them is something beyond the realms of the comprehension of any distance !!

5. When "Destabilize", "Deregulate", "Deestablish" and all other "De" words have a negative connotation, then "Delight" ??? #English is not a funny but a 'pun'ny language

6. Considering his current notorious lack of form, guess, Dhawan must change his name to DhaWANE...!

7. What is the particular age in our life which is full of s**t??
Ans: GarbAGE..:P
# I am banging my own head

8. What happens when you click the picture of a beautiful port in a non-horizontal manner?
Ans: The Port becomes a PORTrait....:P
# 10 times head banging on the wall

9. Mani Ratnam Sir gave us an outstanding film 'Guru' that was based loosely on the life of Dhirubhai Ambani. Wondering what title he would give if he made a film on Vijay Mallya.
'Sarakkum ila Murukkum ila'. Maybe.

10. NO TV serial in the world can match their twists & turns coz the mother of the kings of all mega serials begin today.....IPL!

11.AR Rahman will be now very busy in composing 'JAYA HO'...!

12. Sometimes, I can't stand my own PJs. That's when I decide to sit down!

13. Everyone is copying surf excel. now, speed is good. Guess, next cadburys would launch an ad showcasing 2 kids wrestling over a bar of diary milk silk and say "fight is good" !!

14. 2 truths decoded from the 3 verdicts in the past one week - the RIGHT is not always popular and the popular is not always right..!!

15. I really don't get it when people say they want something in PDF Format when PDF, by definition and expansion, actually stands for Portable Document FORMAT..!

Whether you liked it or not, I leave that up to you to decide.

Arrival - The Materialization of Something Big - Part 1

Great food and good movie go hand in hand. It's like a romantic couple coupling their fingers together and walking along the beach as the sun sets down with a pleasant and soothing wind prevailing in the atmosphere. A fantastic combo!

My friend and I experienced such a one and only opportunity to indulge ourselves in an intellectually satisfying film and emotionally satiating victual.

As with the standard template of any Hollywood flick, the Arrival starts with moving the pieces of the puzzles straight away by showing the present Amy Adams being involved with the US government to decode the Aliens' language and her past relationship with her daughter in a back and forth manner like a Tennis rally!  The movie pace is relatively and deliberately slow but the screenplay is in such a way that you don't have the feel that it is sluggish as the narration keeps you hooked up by the brilliance of the director. Before you know it, an hour has passed and intermission has arrived!

Just like the Anaconda which was shown to us with a tantalizingly patient and dramatic style, the 7-limbed aliens are also revealed to us in a similar fashion. But, the highlight of the movie is the systematic approach that Amy Adams tries to decode and learn the Aliens language by breaking down every word in the sentence to the point where the Government can know what is the intention for the foreign beings to land in 12 different places.

Post-interval, you have a slight apprehension that 'Arrival' might take the regular route of bang-bang razing of cities with Jeremy Runner and Amy Adams heroically saving the day. However, the ingenuity of the director in the first half negates this possibility that the aliens will not be unfriendly as there is a specific dialogue for Amy Adams where she responds to Forest Whitaker "It's not true" when the Colonel makes a sweeping statement that aliens are dangerous beings without even having interacted with them. It is actually an eye opener and applicable in real life as it is only the deep mistrust, distrust and fear that is set in human beings which is responsible for people to be highly cynical and pessimistic about fellow beings leaving aside the Aliens.

The second half is a dazzling cerebral fodder with statements like 'Time is non-linear' which is completely opposite to the way that we perceive time in reality to be either linear or circular. Likewise, we are always used to flashbacks. In 'Arrival', we learn that the apparent past of Amy Adams is actually her own future. The scene where she interacts with the Chinese in future and the process in which her present unfolds to make that future happen is like a cyclical loop for which the Director deserves a pat on his back. Similarly, the cinematographer is worth a double pat on his back for the way he had choreographed the sequence where Amy Adams is shown against a pristine white backdrop with her golden hair dancing gracefully and gleefully in the background which really makes your jaw drop. It was nothing short of spectacular.

'Arrival' is the kind of cinema that the majority of the people may refrain from seeing as it neither possesses the thrilling dishoom-dishoom effect nor the overblown visual grandiose. This film is for those who really love to watch good movies being made in a thoughtful manner and to those who can understand and appreciate the director's touch.

PS:
I am not sure whether am I the only one who thought during this entire movie that the language of the aliens was akin to the famous patch of ink in the Inkblot test which ascertains an individual's psychology!

AYM - A 'Thalli Pogathey' Bike Ride

Neil Armstrong famously once said "One small step for man, One giant leap for Mankind". Modi Ji rewrote this highly well-known statement in his own style according to our context as "One giant step for man and woman, One massive leap for all Indians" when he struck everyone with a blasting and powerful boomerang this past week. Modi Ji and his crew kept all the cards close to their hearts till the paradigm-shift-moment arrived. Just like a magician who pulls out a rabbit from a hat, Modi Ji did not just let the cat but a roaring tiger out of the bag causing a tremendous buzz across the vast lengths and breadths of our country that would have even stunned the bees by such an enormous buzz of activity!

So, what does Neil Armstrong and our PM has got to do with AYM review? No more delays as we had enough of AYM delays!

First up. It's spoiler free.

Second. I would really want to applaud GVM for giving us all with AYM in such a manner.

Third. It is easily Simbu's best performance till date. He simply aces through every scene - be it he making jokes on his real life or his earlier character in VTV, Will-I-get-caught or not-scenes when he looks at Manjima, his complete changeover into a determined individual to fight back - Simbu is one of the towering pillars of AYM.

Fourth. AR Rahman. Man! and Woman!! AYM's music had been creating a sensational flutter ever since "Thalli Pogathey" single got released in January. For more on AYM's music, do check out: AYM Music Review.

Beyond the songs, the BGM was perfectly in harmony with the setting and mood of the film that it took the entire film to another level along with the movie's scintillating cinematography especially in the 'Thalli Pogathey' Song. Oh. My. Gawddddd. Nope. That was not in Janice Style!

'Thalli Pogathey' cinematography was as mesmerizing as the song itself. It was ruddy brilliant. Not going to reveal anymore. Just watch it. IN THEATRE. I had envisioned a certain picturization for it when I listened to the song all this while - Simbu and Manjima have a break up and the song pops up as a dream sequence in either Simbu's or Manjima's. But, GVM brings all his experience to the fore and gives an out of an world experience in the most unexpected moment of the film that it really elevated the song to beyond the describable words of articulation. Hats off to GVM for even conceiving such an idea. 'Thalli Pogathey' truly lived upto the director's claim as 'best picturized song in a long while'.

From a warm, friendly and when-they-will-say-I-Love-You moments, AYM turns a big 360 degree riding into the second half. It was very intense. Poignant. GVM holds the reigns of the screenplay tightly with sufficient freedom for clap worthy, hooting and laughing jokes smuggled into the gripping second half, here and there, from time to time. For a debutant, Manjima sizzles in her portions, pun intended. You will know why I said pun for "portions" when you watch the movie.

Now, the most important question - What relevance does Modi Ji has got to do with this review?

Just like how our PM safe-guarded the secret of the Brahmastra 'Black Money', GVM has kept one vital information away from everyone in all his teasers and trailers. No. I am not going to reveal it but if you are a very logical and analytical person who will not cave in to the emotional leash thrown in by the director, you can easily find out the big Brahmastra as early as in the second half itself.

There was one nagging question which was bothering my mind right from the start of AYM as to why Simbu was so beefy in the movie. Good luck to you for figuring it! Unfortunately, I was sucked into the romance-emotions that my sense of judgement was skewed and awry beyond the permissible limits that the surprise indeed came as a pleasant hollering from my end.

There is also another suspense that is netted throughout the movie. But, it was very evident to me this time considering the hype and did not come much as a big shock or surprise when the beans were spilled out. Good luck again for figuring that out!

Only Positives. No negatives? The biggest let down of AYM has got to be the hurried finish during the climax in this otherwise awesome GVM-ARR-Simbu magic. Also, I am not sure why a couple of lines were added in the "Showkali" song. It was so lazily added during the editing stages that those 2 lines were like a fish out of water!

AYM has something in it for everyone - action, romance, comedy, the ever realistic and relatable scenes ,like playing cricket using hands as bats, that's prevalent in all the GVM movies, superb songs and amazing cinematography. But, it is definitely a must watch for all the love birds out there who will definitely hum 'Thalli Pogathey' when they are out of the theatres just like everyone else.

The wait was indeed worth it.

'Thalli Pogathey....Ennayum..Thalli Poga Solladhey'.....Still humming but alone!!!

Arnab Goswami - The Shining Knight of the Night - Part 2

Continuing from Part 1 ,

We have heard the Christians telling us that it is said in The Bible that Jesus walked on water. Also, similar events were created by illusionists to prove their point that they are the greatest magicians in the world until a vexed counterpart exposed the trick. But, a certain person whose name starts with 'B' and ends with 'T' would be "walking on air" ergo defying the physics of gravity as promulgated by Newton and giving the walking-on-water illusionists a run for their money. So, who is this mysterious personality? If you don't wish to find out, you may skip to the 3rd paragraph. The choice is yours.

As the irrational and stupid terrorists buggers are causing unnecessary skirmishes at the borders with our Indian Army using fire, Arnab Goswami dropped a bombshell that he is resigning from the Times Now which engendered a tremendous temblor and vibrating flutter amongst the Indian Media Fraternity. The happiest person in the world, when the announcement of his statement which broke out a couple of days back, would have been the same person whom I referred earlier in the previous para. Arnab's contemporary in NDTV.

As a kid, I used to watch 'We the People' that was aired on Sundays. I don't even know whether it's being done now as I had severed ties with NDTV post the Radiagate in 2010/11 and shifted my allegiance to Times Now after evaluating the other media weren't catering upto my expectations. But, as long as I used to devour the talk show, it was just for Barkha for the way she used to take the arguments and discussions to its logical conclusion. From the many comments that I have been reading lately and in the recent past on her, it is extremely evident that she has grossly misplaced her priorities especially on matters of national security. Will she change?  I don't know. But, a small hope in me says that she should because of all the wonderful memories that she had created for me in my childhood days.

Whenever I had free time after my long and tiring work hours, I used to see Arnab Goswami's The Newshour on specific topics of my interest ever since 2011 especially the famous RaGa interview. I was bursting out with immense laughter and wondered how Arnab Goswami remained to be so unflustered without even twitching a muscle during the entire course of the interview. Then, it hit me that he might have had hysterically ROFLed privately.

With time on my hands currently, I am able to scrutinize him further now beyond the peripherals. There is no doubt that ever since Arnab's journey began with The Newshour that he has always been rude and rambunctious. He is ruthlessly aggressive. He is rough and tough. He is highly opinionated. However, his questions are precise, pointed, incisive and penetrative when he makes his scathing attacks on his panelists.

But, Arnab Goswami viciously confronts only the person's stand and not the person themselves. There is a thin line that separates between the two which people momentarily confuse, get offended because of the heat of the moment and leave his shows. Some might say he does it for the TVTs. Others may opine he does it for sensational dramaticism to get more eyeballs and impressions. However, Arnab Goswami really wears his heart on his sleeve, okay Suit!, making his point crystal clear than hide behind the veil of neutral stand. He doesn't pussyfoot around important topics of national interest.

I saw it LIVE. It was a goosebumps moment..!

No one can ever question that the show is rigged and the panel is under his thumb.

Arnab Goswami has his heart in the right place. Why else would he receive terror calls and be given Y-security? He is doing something right which is why certain fringe elements are irked by his questioning in his programme thus questioning his security cover. He had made an extremely positive impact in The Newshour that lead to Manoj Nayaks arrest during the hospital fire in Odisha. One just case to prove that he has his heart set in transformational journalism and not nickel and dime PR stunts.

Like a cheetah chasing its prey, the despisers of Arnab will throw daggers at me by asking how I know that Arnab Goswami is really the person he is on TV and not doing/saying things for garnering public support which has resulted in Times Now having an unparalleled edge over its competitors.

The answer is very simple. I have no idea as I haven't interacted with him on a personal level and all that I know about him is only through my observations in the 2 hours vociferous and heated debates.

However, we must remember that Times Now is a business venture and exists for making profits by selling the product called news. So, even IF he does things to generate revenue for Times Now with his antics during the vehement polemics, he is still a better person than his peers when it comes to presenting his own unvarnished truths on sensitive issues in the right manner.

But, one thing is certain. From a Marketing perspective, The Newshour is a solid diamond mine for any brand to be associated with to reach out to potential millions of consumers swiftly and effortlessly. Times Now can dictate their own diktats and drive a hard bargain with the advertisers due to the phenomenal success of Arnab Goswami's intense and passionate display of tough aggression by verbally assassinating the participants when they either circumlocute or beat around the bush or dodge or keep mum to his questions.

Few of you might ask me as to what I may get after writing this blog now:

Yeah. Right. Arnab Goswami will take his time to read a virtually stranger's blog and appoint me to the currently vacant Editor-in-Chief of Times Now..! (If you don't get the sarcasm, I am not responsible!)

People do only those things for which they care about. Be it in your vocation or avocation. After having watched him for more than 6 years, from my standpoint, I felt that Arnab has sculptured and chiselled a unique position for himself by his unabashed opinions as he has clearly understood that the right perception creation is the need of the hour to make an intended positive change in our country which is deeply entrenched with cynicism and misguided views.

The Newshour already bore the brunt last week when the numbers of their twitter handle plummeted because of his absence. It was not that the replacement news anchors were not good but it is solely due to the fact that Arnab's brief hiatus generated such a relatively poor viewership. God only knows what will be the actual effect when he no longer does The Newshour.

So, I decided to put forth my views as it was the apt time to a deserved person who is sundered and shredded to pieces by some section of the media just like how our PM is blasted to smithereens for everything and anything that happens in the country. We live in a democracy. Everyone has got their own way of thinking. But, whether that mode of mind operation is right or wrong?  That's what the Nation wants to know!

Arnab Goswami - The Shining Knight of the Night - Part 1

Noise - Ah! The dreaded 5 letter word which causes many to lose over their sleep and have their sweet dreams polluted to produce a jarring effect on their forty winks. I am sure most of you would have experienced the adverse effects of a blaring loudspeaker - either during an election rally or during the Aadi season. The disconcerting uneasiness. The High BP. The persistent annoyance. You tend to be highly strung and extremely uptight unless and until the much needed silence engulfs your immediate surrounding thus ensuring that you don't go bonkers but be within the reasonable bounds of sanity as soon as the calm lull descends upon us.

I really don't have to say anything more as to why I had given such an introduction with Arnab Goswami as my title. Some perceive his tryst with The Newshour as an unruly fish market. Others view his programme as a cacophonous amalgam of disharmony and pandemonium. I have heard certain people saying 'Barking dogs seldom bite' and 'Empty vessels make more noise'. But, how I personally see him is - 'Still waters run deep'. With Arnab Goswami, the 'Still waters' in the adage has to be loudly replaced with 'Thundering Waterfalls'.

The problem with the majority of the people in our country is they are so used to seeing the corrupt bureaucrats at various trophic levels and manipulative media that they are clearly unable to discriminate the good egg and bad egg despite the hardened evidence showing contrary that some people aver and champion for their causes and plights. When anyone does the right thing, the immediate reaction for many would be to hold a flag or enact a dharna to oppose them so that these flagbearers can occlude and obviate their adversaries from supporting or ameliorating the causes that actually touches the lives of the people and has a direct impact in our day to day life.

This is what is actually happening with Modi ji and Arnab Goswami who wants to bring about a positive change in our country. But, when one cannot reach the stature of certain individuals, what people with cheap mentality does is that they pull down them to their distastefully abysmal level and trample all over them as it is the easiest thing in the world to accomplish for such pitiable souls.

In fact, if a person can remove their tainted glasses and view the world as such, they can find significant similarities between our PM and Arnab Goswami. Both have faced severe criticisms for their proper style of handling things when it comes to addressing the concerns of the people. Likewise, the pair has got the dubious distinction to have many a meme created against their names by people who cannot be like them. Modi ji bats for Achhe din and Arnab Goswami is Achhe DIN..!
